Humming threads of the incomplete
Flailing in a drawer
Desperate, apathetic
Tiny fish gasping for air
Each different
Each the same
A chorus of purpose, all together, one drawer full of everything
An eternal dance of unfinished
—
Closed loops are still
They move along
They sit quietly, they turn to loam, they decay, they grow flowers
Or onions
Or slippery goo
Open loops twitch and get forgotten, periodically yelp in discomfort
They scream for attention
Then go back to sleep
Together a din of reliable chaos
A ready pantry of distraction, dopamine, protection from the shame
The shame, grief, and humility that sit in the quiet
And wait to be seen
—
You aren’t attached to me
You didn’t chose me
You keep me as your open loop
In your drawer of open loops
Whimpering, demanding, crying, inviting, dancing in discomfort
—
Chaotic, colorful, din of incomplete
Coherence between inside and outside
Safe from finality
From stories that end and can’t be changed
From the perpetual tragedy of being human
From being beautiful
Not knowing
Being flawed
Never landing
Churning
Dancing
Stirring
Your drawer of open loops
